She started her modeling career in 1990 and soon moved into acting, after appearances as a guest on TV shows such as Boy Meets World or High Incident. In 1997 she made her acting debut as a film actress in Nowhere. She made the transition to important roles thanks to her performance on American Beauty for which she received nominations for the BAFTA Award and American Pie each of which garnered more attention. The next time she appeared was in Loser (2000) which was a co-production with American Pie actor Jason Biggs. Then she appeared as the title character in Sugar & Spice (2002).
